The 2013 Summer Reading Club is
about to start at the
Great Bend Public Library!!
Summer Reading Club Begins June 10th,
registration and reporting start that day!
Summer Reading Club is for children birth to 6th
grade and is FREE!!!
To Join:
1. Get a library card! They are FREE of charge! Just bring your mom or dad and proof of their current address
2. Sign a reading contract in the Children’s Room. Just provide your name, address, age and phone number. And decide on a goal to read in the six weeks of Summer Reading Club! If you reach your goal you will win a prize!
3. For each book or hour that you read turn in a completed slip to the appropriate bucket in the Children’s Room. You can also count books that are read to you!
4. Then pick up a calendar and join us for FREE events and activities throughout the summer!!!

Events Schedule:
Sign-Up for Summer Reading Club: June 10th On this day you can sign up for Summer Reading Club and start reporting your books or hours. Please fill out a contract stating how many books you will read over the seven week period. After you read a book or hour fill out a slip and drop it in the appropriate jar. Weekly check your name card to see how you’re progressing and to check for prizes attached to your card. Everyone gets a prize for reaching their reading goal. You may sign-up on or any day after this day and report your books as little or as often as you would like. (Last day to report books is July 18th)
Book Mark Contest: June 10th to July 20th Come in once a week to the Welcome Desk and see if you have a lucky number. Lucky number winners get a prize, if you don’t have a lucky number you get candy! This event can be done any time you visit the library during business hours.
Check Out Contest: June 10th to July 20th Every time you come to the library and check out an item drop your name in the appropriate age range box and be entered to win a prize. Winners will be contacted at the conclusion of the Summer Reading Club to pick up their prizes. This event can be done any time you visit the library during business hours.
Story Time: Tuesdays and Fridays June 11th through July 19th 10:15- 11:00am Story time sign-ups will begin on June 3rd and are held on Tuesdays and Fridays. So join us either Tuesday or Friday for stories, songs, crafts and fun! Story Time is intended for children 18 months and older and will be held at the library.
Dan Dan the Magic Man: June 10th at 3:30pm Dan Dan the Magic Man will perform a magic show that fits in with the Dig Into Reading! Summer Reading Club Theme. Dan Dan performs a variety of magic tricks and his magic show usually lasts 45 min to an hour. This event will be held at the library.
Game Day: June 12th at 2:00pm Join in the cool air conditioning of the library to play games. We will get out the Library’s Wii system and provide board and card games. The program should last about an hour.
Family Movie: June 15th at 7:00pm Join Us for a movie and FREE popcorn for the whole family! A small-time magician is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches. Doors will open at 6:45pm and close at 7:15pm
Touch a Truck: June 19th at 2:00pm Come join us in the parking lot of the library to see trucks from various businesses and services in town! We plan to have a snack and a full hour to see all the trucks! This is a great opportunity to bring out your camera and let your kids see how various trucks and pieces of equipment look. The event will last until 3:00pm and will be held in the Great Bend Public Library Parking Lot!
Kansas Wetland Center: June 22nd at 2:00pm Pam Martin from the Kansas Wetland Education Center will do a program on animals. Sometimes Pam has been known to bring live animals to the library! Pam will do her presentation and have a craft. The program should last about an hour and will be held at the library.
Outdoor Water Day: June 26th at 2:00pm We will play water games on the front lawn of the library! Be prepared to get wet, have a popsicle and enter to win some prizes. The program should last about an hour.
Rolling Hills Zoo: July 3rd at 2:00pm Rolling Hills Wildlife Park will be visiting the Great Bend Public Library. They are expected to bring some animals! This event should be fun for the entire family! This event should last about an hour and will be held at the library.
Kid’s Summer Movie: July 5th at 3:30pm We will have a movie and popcorn. Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.
Guessing Contest: July 8th through July 13th Come in and guess how many items are in the jar for a chance to win a prize! One entry per person please! This event can be done any time you visit the library during business hours.
Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Marathon: July 9th through July 12th at 2:00pm Join us for the epic Pirates of the Caribbean Movies. FREE Popcorn and water!!! This event will be held at the library! Bring the whole family!!!
July 9th: Blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate "Captain" Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who are now undead.
July 10th: Jack Sparrow races to recover the heart of Davy Jones to avoid enslaving his soul to Jones' service, as other friends and foes seek the heart for their own agenda as well.
July 11th: Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann must sail off the edge of the map, navigate treachery and betrayal, and make their final alliances for one last decisive battle.
July 12th: Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.
Bingo at the Library: July 13th at 2:00pm Come play Bingo at the library! On the listed dates bring the whole family to play Bingo! At the library everybody wins when we play Bingo! We play picture Bingo for about an hour and give out various prizes. This event will be held at the library.
Exploration Place @ the Library: July 17th at 2:00pm Join us for a fun filled program that is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis of Great Bend. The Exploration Place will be presenting a program on dinosaurs and fossils. This program promises to be fun for the whole family. This program should last about one hour.
Last Day to Report Reading: July 18th This will be the last day you can report all reading! Please have all of your Hours and Books slips turned in by closing time on this day.
Final Party: July 20th 2:00pm to 4:00pm Join us at the Library for the Summer Reading Final Party! We will have food and entries for prizes! All Prize winners will be contacted and told they have won a prize. This event is a come and go event, stop by any time between 2:00 and 4:00pm.
