Pop Culture Trashion Show

So trashionable!

What is this Pop Culture Trashion Show you’ve heard about? Well, to put it simply, it’s a cosplay contest with a twist! Participants can use any repurposed materials (examples: recyclables such as cardboard or plastic containers; old clothing; clean food wrappers; found items) to construct an original cosplay of a favorite character from an existing book, movie, television series, manga, anime, video game, etc. (and each respective fandom) of their choosing.

Submission Deadline: July 15, 2020 11:59 p.m.
(Read entry instructions below.)

Creation Process

Entry pieces should be composed entirely of repurposed materials, with the exceptions being structural aids such as glue and thread.

When worn, cosplays should cover at least the following areas, front and back:

Submission Process

Entries are to be submitted via Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram using the hashtag “#GBTrashionShow20” and tagging the Great Bend Public Library with the handles @greatbendpl (Facebook and Instagram) and @greatbendpl1 (Twitter).

Participants are required to submit photos that showcase the front, sides, and back of the piece, along with one picture of the participant’s preferred angle and pose. Participants must also include at least one clear reference picture of the character that is the basis of their cosplay.

To ensure that the submitted cosplay is an original piece for this specific contest, entries must include one photograph of the participant in casual clothes holding a paper sign with “#GBTrashionShow20” on it.

Participants may include a short video of themselves in their finished cosplay so judges and voters can see it in motion.

After the Deadline

After submitting their pieces, participants must set up an appointment for an online recorded video interview with the coordinators. The interview will take place after the submission deadline has passed, and it will be reviewed by the panel of judges before the final vote takes place.

Consent by Participation

By participating in this contest, you are confirming that you are a teen grades 6-12, and that if you are under the age of 18, you have parental consent for the Great Bend Public Library to share relevant photos and recorded interviews on its website and social media platforms.

Judges & Voting

We’ll have a panel of judges vote for the best-in-show winner based on materials used, ingenuity and creativity, construction, and overall likeness in comparison to the original inspiration. Popular vote from the community will decide the winners of the following categories:

Failure to Comply

You may be wondering, “What happens to an entry if a participant fails to follow, in part or in whole, the guidelines for the Pop Culture Trashion Show?”

If an entrant has been informed that their cosplay does not follow the guidelines, that entrant may address the issue with the event coordinators and make appropriate modifications within 48 hours of being contacted about said submission. If the modifications follow the guidelines, their entry will be considered valid. If an entrant fails to address any concerns with their piece in a timely manner, it will, sadly, be disqualified.
